The reform of a singular building in Barcelona, completed

We have already finished the reform project of a single-family house and construction of a swimming pool in the Guinardó area (Barcelona). It is a detached house composed by ground floor, first floor and basement, and it is surrounded by a garden around the perimeter.

It is a unique building because it is part of the Can Baró Houses of Journalists, a group of city-garden houses from the early 20th century, and it is listed as a Property of Urban Interest. This means that the volumes, the original interior ornamental elements and the fences and perimeter walls, among others, are protected.

In this reform it has been tried to adapt a single-family house converted for years into a restaurant, so that becomes the home of a family again. This has implied internally redistributing the spaces. On the ground floor there is the entrance of the house through the rear garden that leads to the hall and the internal staircase. On this level there are the main rooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, and a bathroom, all in direct contact with the outside. The first floor is the bedroom floor, where we find three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms, the master bedroom, is a large suite with a bathroom and dressing room. Regarding the exterior spaces, we have restored the stone finishes, bricks, doors and bars and we have built a swimming pool and a porch.

The project has been designed by the architects Robert Aparicio, Roger Jornet and Sílvia Ollé and it has been led by José Antonio Hernández as project manager.

We love the light that enters this home, as well as the location and views. We are very happy with the result!
